Manitoba signs deal for high speed internet for First Nations, rural communities

Manitoba announced Tuesday it has signed a contribution agreement with Xplornet Communications to provide high speed internet to around 30 First Nations and approximately 350 rural and northern communities.

In May, a memorandum of understanding was undertaken with Xplornet to connect 125,000 unserved or underserved residents living in 350 communities to broadband services. The province and Xplornet have completed the contribution agreement and other documents to start network-building. As part of construction, Xplornet will consult with businesses, local governments and First Nation communities.
