Glace Bay, Riverview open with tip-off tournament victories

GLACE BAY — The annual Cape Breton High School Basketball League tip-off tournament began on Thursday at Glace Bay High School gym with three games on the schedule.

In girls’ action, the Glace Bay Panthers beat the Sydney Academy Wildcats 60-47, while the Riverview Ravens downed the Memorial Marauders 67-64.

The lone boys’ game of the day saw the Glace Bay Panthers knock off the Memorial Marauders 63-57. It was the Glace Bay school’s first win in boys play in four years.

Friday’s action at the tournament saw Sydney Academy and Riverview as well as Breton Education Centre and Memorial in boys’ play. BEC and Sydney Academy also played in girls’ action. Score results were not available at publication time, but are online in the local sports section at saltwire.com/capebreton/.

Four games are scheduled for today: two in the boys division and two in the girls division.

Boys’ play will see Sydney Academy and BEC at 4 p.m. and Riverview and Glace Bay at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, in girls’ action, Memorial plays BEC at 2 p.m. and Glace Bay hosts Riverview at 6 p.m.

The consolation games are set for Sunday at 10 a.m. (girls) and 12 p.m. (boys) followed by the championship games at 2 p.m. (girls) and 4 p.m. (boys).

A tournament pass is $10. Adults are $5 per game and students are $2.
