Jaida Lee to be honoured in Niagara Falls

N.L. native was first female to participate in men’s baseball competition in Canada Summer Games

It will be a big day for Newfoundland and Labrador native Jaida Lee in the city of Niagara Falls today.

Lee will be recognized at Oates Park for being the first female to participate in men’s baseball competition in the 56-year history of the Canada Summer Games. It occurred on Aug. 8, 2022 — while representing Newfoundland and Labrador — when Lee pitched her way into the history books during the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games.

A news release states, “Jaida is an inspiration for young female athletes and, while playing at Oakes Park in Niagara Falls, quickly drew a following of young fans as well as supporters of all ages. The City of Niagara Falls is recognizing Jaida for her accomplishments with a plaque on the Grandstand at Oakes Park and hopes to inspire generations to come.”

Jaida will throw out the first pitch at a Greater Niagara Baseball Association U16 tournament on Saturday and be available for a meet and greet and autograph session, signing commemorative baseball cards.

The event kicks off Recreation and Parks Month in Niagara Falls.
