Jr. A Crushers take two of three

MOUNT WILLIAM – The Pictou County Jr. A Crushers took two of three games in recent Maritime Junior Hockey League action.

At home at the Wellness Centre, the Crushers snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Valley Wildcats with a pair of goals from Bryson Boudreau and a single from Jake Edwards. Kenzie MacPhail made 17 saves for the win and was named the game’s first star. Crushers forward Venel Campbell was chosen as second star.

The Crushers then welcomed the Eastlink South Division-leading Bearcats and beat them 8-1 in a penaltyfilled contest that saw both teams take over 80 minutes in penalties. The Crushers were 3-for-9 on the powerplay while the Bearcats were scoreless on eight times with the man advantage.

Nick Mahar led Pictou County with a pair of goals. Lucas Parsons had a goal and three helpers while Thomas Johnson and Riley Seymour each had a single tally and two assists. Ben Mercer, Campbell and Edwards rounded out the scoring. Parsons was the game’s first star, Johnson second, and Mahar the third.

MacPhail stopped 20 shots for the win.

The Crushers then hosted Yarmouth and were edged 4-3 by the Mariners.

Parsons scored twice for the Crushers with a single goal added by Boudreau.

MacPhail made 33 saves in the Pictou County goal and was selected as the second star while Parsons was third.

The Crushers have a record of 8-9-0-0 and are fourth in the Eastlink South Division, three points behind the Wildcats.

Pictou County hosts South Shore on Thursday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Wellness Centre.
