COLLEY, Alice Victoria

Alice Victoria Colley, 85, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away on December 29, 2022, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on December 16, 1937, in East Preston, Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her mother, Hazel Ewing (William Colley); and her father, Joseph Thomas (Vera); sisters, Viola Wright, Leana Colley, Evangeline Williams, Ada and infant Vera Thomas and brothers, Gilbert Colley and James, Glen, and Brian Thomas. She is survived by sister, Mary Thomas (Cyril, deceased); brother, Graham Thomas (Sharon), East Preston; sisters, Karen Williams (Allan), Lake Loon; Sybil Thomas Wyse (Randolph), Dartmouth, Jeanette Brooks (Wilfred, deceased) and sister-in-law, Audrey Colley, along with several nieces and nephews. Her extended family and friends join her siblings in remembering Alice’s sense of humour, her feisty nature, her kindness and faithfulness. To those who knew her, belly laughs were always part of a visit with Alice. She was known and loved throughout Halifax. She always had the time to chat and share a kind word; a ten minute walk to the dry cleaners could last for hours! In her later years she took up painting, producing thousands of pictures, most of which she gave away to friends and neighbours. She was generous to all. Her Christmas presents were legendary, as was the length of her giving list. In her early 50’s Alice adopted a growing family and loved the five children as her own. She became known as Gramma Alice to the next generation of 12 grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by Mary and Walter Schlech and their children, Austin, Bo, Jane, Peter and Michael; her godson and another adopted son, Andrew Wajda, as well as many dear friends throughout all of North America. For someone who had a rough start to life, it is inspiring to realize the extent of the community she touched with her beautiful spirit.
