BAMBURY, Joseph Albert “Joe”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Joe’s passing in Dartmouth General Hospital on November 9, 2023 following a brief illness. He was 78 years old. Joe is survived by his children, Margaret and Craig; and his brothers, Roy (Claire), David (Donna), and their families. Joe was preceded by his wife, Penny; and his parents, Lewis and Winnifred Bambury.joe had a long career on the water holding a variety of responsible positions with Upper Lake Shipping, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, CN Marine and the Canadian Coast Guard. Community involvements included the Sydney Suburban West Kinsmen and serving as past President of Sydney Minor Hockey Association. Joe worked hard to ensure all children interested in playing hockey were able to participate. Following Joe’s retirement as Chief Marine Engineer he had the opportunity to travel the world exploring places like Dubai, Indonesia and through the Panama Canal. Joe also enjoyed his time spent vacationing in Florida over the years. A man of strong convictions, Joe loved to share stories of his travel adventures with family and friends. Joe was passionate about hockey, golf and was a long-time member of Brightwood Golf & Country Club. Joe always enjoyed the shenanigans in the 19th hole and his friends will miss his stories and quick wit. Joe was also a regular at Dave Doolittle’s and Colleen’s Pub. Other interests included analyzing sports statistics, old cars (a certain 1970 Corvette) and a long-time fan of the Green Bay Packers. Joe loved a rich life and will be missed by many.
