Teen’s subway murder was unprovoked, random: police
TORONTO — The latest murder on the TTC was an unprovoked random attack on a stranger, Toronto Police confirmed.
Police identified a teenager stabbed to death at Keele subway station Saturday night as 16-year-old Gabriel Magalhaes, of Toronto.
The latest killing happened about two weeks after extra police patrols on the TTC, which began in response to a large increase in violent incidents, were scrapped. The 80 officers working overtime on transit were eliminated and only on-duty police patrols now continue.
Officers at the scene said that after a brief exchange between two people, there was an assault and stabbing just inside the doors of the westend station. The victim was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries
Jordan O’brien-tobin, 22, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
