Kensington spending $4.2M to upgrade infrastructure

KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — The Town of Kensington is getting federal and provincial government funding for projects to upgrade the town's arena and water and sewer system, costing $4.2 million.

The federal government is spending more than $1.7 million combined for both projects, while the province is contributing $1.4 million. The town is paying for the remaining $1.1 million.

The money will go towards installing a 100-kilowatt solar panel system at the Credit Union Centre, replacing the arena's ice plant, installing new LED lights over the ice surface and resurfacing the parking lot.

Also, the town will use the money to extend water and sewer systems along Broad Street South, completing loops in the system and connecting to other major roads. Fire hydrants will also be installed and several residential and commercial buildings will be serviced.
