INTERFERENCE WITH SIU INVESTIGATION WRONG

The Special Investigative Unit (SIU) is, by statute, an independent investigative body, charged with examining incidents where police officers use deadly force.

It is therefore totally unacceptable for either the RCMP or Department of Internal Services to intervene with the SIU with respect to an ongoing investigation. Both these organizations had much at stake in the follow-up investigations of the Portapique massacre, including the SIU investigation of the Onslow fire hall incident.

These inappropriate interventions are further confirmation the RCMP should never have been tasked with investigation of the massacre, given that their credibility and reputation was, and continues to be, at stake.
