Police warn businesses of counterfeit money circulating in St. John’s area

The RNC has warned businesses to keep an eye out for counterfeit bills circulating in the St. John’s area.

In a Nov. 30 news release, the RNC stated it has received reports of counterfeit currency being used to buy goods at businesses in the Northeast Avalon region.

The counterfeit bills have been used in large denominations, mostly $100 bills, appearing to be U.S. currency and having Russian or Chinese markings on the bills, police said.

The RNC reminds the community to check their money, as it protects everyone and keeps counterfeit bills out of circulation.

Police ask anyone with information about the bills to call the RNC at 709-729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
