Man charged with speeding 50 km/h over posted limit
Police have arrested a man who was on a countrywide driving ban after officers clocked him driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on the Translabrador Highway on June 1.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says an officer patrolling the highway about 30 kilometres east of Labrador City clocked a vehicle going more than 130 km/h around 2:05 p.m. The posted speed limit is 80 km/h.
The officer stopped the car and found the man was prohibited from driving in Canada.
The 44-year-old Goose Bay man was arrested and charged with driving while prohibited and breach of a court order.
In addition, he received summary offence tickets for driving with a suspended licence and going 51 km/h over the speed limit.
The vehicle was seized, and the accused was held in custody to appear later in court.
