18-year-old charged with robbery and vehicle theft in Mount Uniacke

ATLANTIC BRIEFS DESK sw-briefs@saltwire.com

An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police allege he sprayed a woman with a chemical irritant and stole a vehicle in Mount Uniacke on Sept. 10.

RCMP officers responded to a robbery report on Uniacke Mines Road just before 9:30 p.m. Mounties learned that a man and a woman had been in a vehicle together, which was owned by the woman, when the man told the woman to get out of the vehicle.

When she refused, the man allegedly sprayed her with a chemical irritant, forcibly removed her and threw her belongings out of the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Police said the woman was not injured and declined medical treatment.

While investigating the incident, police were told that the suspect stole fuel from a gas station in the community and left on Highway 1, heading to Windsor.

Later, just before 11 p.m., an officer spotted the vehicle speeding on Highway 1 in Ardoise.

The vehicle was then seen turning off Highway 1 onto Buster Davis Road, and a traffic stop was attempted.

The man then stopped the vehicle and was arrested.

Evan Lloyd Wheadon is facing charges of robbery, theft and two counts of failure to comply with conditions.

Wheadon then appeared in Shubenacadie provincial court on Sept. 11 and was held in custody.

He is set to return to Shubenacadie provincial court on Sept. 25.
