The Yarmouth Jr. A Mariners have wrapped up the best regular season ever for the club in its 20-year history.

The team finished at the top of the entire Maritime Junior Hockey League with 84 points after winning 41 of its 52 games during the regular season. The team came close to at least two other wins too, falling short in overtime twice.

The Mariners set a team franchise record this season with its .808 win percentage.

The team was also ranked in 10th place in the CJHL's final rankings of junior A teams across Canada for the season. The only other MHL team to crack that Top 10 list was the Edmundston Blizzard who held the 19th spot.

The Mariners have won more than 40 games once before. The team won 42 games during the 2007-2008 season, although back then there were 58 games in the regular season, giving more chances for additional wins.

Next up are the playoffs in which the Mariners will meet the Pictou Crushers in the first round. Game 1 of the best-of-seven game series will be at the Mariners Centre on Friday, March 17.

Because the Mariners ended the season as the regular league season champion, the team will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
