Donald King was fatally injured in a collision with an impaired driver on Highway 4 near Glenholme on Aug. 27, 1993.

He succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 6, 1993, and on May 5, 2022 a memorial road sign in his honour was announced in a press release by MADD Canada.

Featuring King’s name and MADD Canada’s iconic red ribbon, the sign is located on Highway 4, just past the Route 2 Exit to Parrsboro and Portapique.

King’s children and wife, Dorothy, who survived the crash, attended the unveiling, along with representatives from

MADD Canada and Minister of Public Works Kim Masland.

King’s children, Susan MacAskill and Paul King, are founding and original members of the MADD Annapolis Valley Chapter.

MacAskill is the past national president of MADD Canada and also served as the regional manager for the Atlantic Region.

The sign honouring King is the first MADD Canada memorial sign in Nova Scotia.

In 2021, MADD Canada and Nova Scotia agreed to the installation of Memorial Road Signs on provincial highways at the locations of fatal impaired driving crashes.
