Although professionallooking, Juteau said it didn’t capture the essence of the local department.

The new emblem is something the membership helped design and implement.

Juteau said the new insignia is gradually being incorporated into all aspects of the department — from the uniform flashes to the vehicles and stationary.

“It has Windsor Fire on it, the Maltese cross with the Canadian and Nova Scotian flags, the crossed axes. But, the highlight of the patch and our flag design … is the bell in the middle,” said Juteau.

The bell that’s represented was designed for the late Chief Fred Fox, who died in November 2009. Firefighters still use the bell at the station.

Juteau said the new look is modernized, features vibrant colours and allows the department to keep their identity while “embracing the vision as we move forward in the West Hants Fire Service.”

When the former town of Windsor and the municipality of West Hants amalgamated in 2020, the Windsor Fire Department along with the Hantsport Fire Department, Brooklyn Fire Department and Summerville Fire Department, and the substations in Vaughan and Three Mile Plains, all became united under the West Hants Fire Service banner.

“We’re always going to be Windsor Fire Department.

“All of our mutual aid partners are always going to have their fire department names,” said Juteau.

“It’s important to look at the future a little bit and our new patch is a new start, as far as Windsor is concerned.”

Sullivan concurred.

“I think it’s great. It situates our uniform and it brings clarity and focus to Windsor,” said Sullivan.

“Even though we are a regional fire service, we are separate departments that work together with everyone. It’s a nice addition...”
