Free flu vaccination clinics opened across Nova Scotians on Oct. 25.

The Department of

Health and Wellness said in a recent news release the free clinics will be offered at most pharmacies, family doctors, family practice nurses and nurse practitioners across the province.

Nova Scotian's over the age of six months are eligible for the vaccine.

They are encouraged to get the shot in the coming weeks for maximum protection when flu season hits in December and January.

The province noted it can take up to two weeks for the vaccine to provide protection, like the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 public health measures will also be in

place at the clinics, and those attending might be pre-screened for COVID-19 and must wear a mask.

Those with flu symptoms are also asked to be tested for COVID-19 since the symptoms for both illnesses are similar.

Health officials said Nova Scotia has ordered 495,200 doses of the flu shot this year.

“With flu season coming, and the fourth wave of COVID-19 present, we need to continue the healthy habits we've learned throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” said chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang.

“That means first and foremost getting your vaccine to protect yourself and loved ones. But it also means continuing to practise the same public health measures we've been using for COVID-19.”

Nova Scotians with driving aspirations can now take the Class 7 driver licence knowledge test online.

The new bilingual service will provide a more convenient option to get a learner's licence.

The provincial government ensures there are antifraud and security controls in place to protect residents.

“We are introducing another digital service to make it easier and more convenient for Nova Scotians to access government programs,” said Service Nova Scotia Minister Colton LeBlanc.
