A two-vehicle collision on •

Highway 14 near Woodville resulted in two fatalities and two people being seriously injured. The brand-new West Hants Firefighters' Association's Jaws of Life were used to free a trapped occupant.

A 21-year-old Noel man

• was sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty to arson and break and enter and theft. It was reported that he broke into the Noel Fire Hall and stole a 1976 Chevrolet rescue van, which contained a variety of safety and first aid equipment as well as some protective clothing and a twoway radio. He later torched the vehicle. Although the vehicle was insured, the fire chief wasn't sure if the contents were covered and said they were looking at $40,000 to replace what was lost.

West Hants Ground

Search and Rescue members joined the provincial effort to locate 10-year-old Andy Warburton, an Ontario boy who went missing in the woods near Beaver Bank on Canada Day.

Windsor and East Hants

• councils agreed to help fund a new maternity hospital for Halifax that was being proposed by the Salvation Army. It was said the second hospital would help alleviate some of the existing pressure on the Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax. Windsor provided a $1,500 donation while East Hants provided $10,000. It was noted that annually, 13 Windsor patients, on average, attended the Grace Maternity Hospital while East Hants sent an average of 239 patients.
