Now it’s time to right the ship

It was as if the Truro Bearcats came across a speed bump over the course of the week.

For sure, their forward progress was stymied, losing two of three games played.

Last Tuesday (Nov. 15), they faced a fast-skating Campbellton Tigers squad. Truro matched it in a very entertaining game.

The Bearcats were up one going into the third, fell behind, then tied late to force OT. A shootout was required to determine the winner - not in Truro’s favour.

Friday, the Bearcats and Amherst Ramblers had a close one going until the third when the Bearcats scored three unanswered goals.

Three of Truro’s four goals came from the defensive corps. It’s all good when the back-end can contribute offensively.

The Bearcats have won all three head-to-head matchups with the Ramblers this season. They will meet twice in December.

In New Glasgow Saturday, the Bearcats and Crushers were scoreless in the first, with the home team having a significant advantage on shotson-goal.

Pictou County cashed in the next two periods picking up four goals in each. The Bearcats replied with a lone tally - call it a 'blowout.'

That was their fifth meeting to date, with Truro winning three. Interestingly, each team has scored 23 goals in those meetings. The old rivalry was evident in Saturday’s meeting. Things got a bit nasty ... familiarity can do that.

In all three games, the opposition opened the scoring. Chasing the game is not a good plan ... you don’t always catch them.

The Bearcats have a full slate again this week with a road trip to Valley Wednesday, then at the RECC Friday and Saturday to face Yarmouth, then Grand Falls (7 p.m. puckdrops).

Truro has won two of four against Valley and were victors in both Yarmouth meetings. The Bearcats will be in Grand Falls, Dec. 18, to wrap up prechristmas play.

Don’t forget, the Bearcats will be taking part in the annual Truro Santa Claus Parade which gets underway at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27.

In Truro’s win against

Amherst, he scored a pair in the third to seal the deal. Following a season of U-15 hockey with the South Kent School Selects Hockey Academy in New England, he came north for a three-year stay with the Rothesay Netherwood program. Last December, the Bearcats acquired his rights from the Summerside Capitals. This year, he has scored five and assisted on 13, in 18 games played to date.
