TRURO - Despite the drizzly day that started with the season's first dusting of snow, Colchester County has pulled through once again for the food pantry's annual drive. "The community always comes out - it's an amazing community, it really is," said Colchester Food Bank executive director Darlene Deadder. "There are so many helpers that are part of this." By day's end, 13,231 lbs. of food and $25,914.87 in monetary donations were collected by pantry volunteers. On average, the food pantry gives out 400 household boxes a month. Last month (Ocober 2021) saw 34,935 lbs. distributed. In 2020, 376.850 lbs. were given out. The drive-thru event saw a steady flow of individuals, business and community representatives driving and walking through the back parking lot to drop off donations. Volunteers from the food bank's board of directors, the Truro Bearcats and the Halifax Stanfield International Airport were involved with collecting and storing donations and sorting through best before dates.
