Colchester councillor Tom Taggart is announcing his intent to seek the Progressive Conservative nomination for Colchester North.

Taggart, of Bass River, had previously withdrawn his name from the Cumberland col chester Conservative candidate race after a federal Conservative convention voted down a resolution to recognize climate change.

He is promising to advance health care and grow communities in rural areas.

“I am deeply dedicated to the communities I serve and will be aggressive, thinking outside the box in supporting and investigating potential growth opportunities,” said Taggart in a release. “I believe my track record of supporting the residents in our communities has been proven time and time again.”

Taggart has been on council for the Municipality of Colchester for more than 12 years. He has also served on the board of the Federation of

Canadian Municipalities and represented municipalities of Nova Scotia on provincial committees. And, he has been working with the West Colchester Medical Society on doctor recruitment for the Bass River clinic.

“As I move forward in my political career, I will continue to be a loud and proud advocate and to be fiercely loyal to our rural communities that we love and cherish so much,” said Taggart.

Taggart believes in advocating for rural communities and sees the Cumberland Colchester

Broadband initiative as a way to attract young families.

He also said supporting fishing, forestry, agriculture and other traditional-based industries are critical to developing the province and should not be overlooked at the provincial and federal levels of government.

The riding is currently represented by Liberal MLA Karen Casey, who will not be reoffering during the next election. No date has been called, and the spring of 2022 is the latest time an election could be set.
