The Digby RCMP has charged a man with impaired driving causing death following a collision that occurred in December 2022.
On Dec. 22, 2022, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Digby RCMP, fire and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 217 in Roxville, Digby County.
RCMP officers learned that a pickup truck and a panel van were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.
The driver and sole occupant of the panel van, a 57-year-old Bayview man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, a 35-year-old Roxville man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.
Investigators – with assistance from the RCMP Forensic Laboratory – determined the 35-year-old man’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the collision.
On March 16, Tyler Christian Sachs was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death and he was also charged with Operation While Prohibited.
Sachs appeared in Digby Provincial Court for the first time last week and was released on conditions.
