Meteghan RCMP investigating arson, break-in and theft

The Meteghan RCMP is investigating two separate incidents, including a break and enter involving the theft of a firearm on Nov. 12 and an arson on Nov. 15.

Mounties responded to the reported break-in to a residential garage on Highway 1 in Belliveaus Cove around 11 a.m. on Nov. 12.

Officers learned that a Remington hunting rifle with a scope, hunting gear and lobster, valued at $3,000, was stolen overnight.

Then, on Nov. 15, just after 5 a.m., police and fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire at a home on Saulnierville Road.

Police said the fire happened in a storage garage at the back of the home.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze, but the garage and its contents were severally damaged.

Police have deemed the fire to be an arson and the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Meteghan RCMP at 902-645-2326 or tip anonymously to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
