Terminal revitalization, ferry service return, celebrated

The ferry industry is not an easy business, says the CEO and president of Bay Ferries. If it was, Mark MacDonald says, everyone would be doing it.

Despite challenges that come with the ferry industry – including many factors beyond an operator’s control – he says Bay Ferries is committed to doing all it can to see The Cat service succeed as it sails between Nova Scotia and Maine after a threeyear absence.

Although it was a non-sailing day on June 22, there was much activity aboard The Cat ferry in Yarmouth. An event took place marking the completion of Phase 1 of the revitalization of the Yarmouth terminal, while also celebrating the return of ferry service.

While the ferry was sidelined by the COVID pandemic, much work went on to improve the terminal infrastructure. The work included the demolition of an unused passenger gangplank; construction of a new stevedore building; new windows and
