Government announces public transportation funding

Communities across Nova Scotia are benefiting from provincial public transportation funding.

The provincial government is investing almost $5 million in transportation services through the Community Transportation Assistance Program and Public Transit Assistance Program.

“Access to transportation is a necessity for people who are going to work, attending medical appointments, getting groceries, going to school or participating in community activities,” says Public Works Minister Kim Masland. “This investment will help make it easier for more Nova Scotians to have access to safe, affordable and accessible transportation in their communities.”

The announcement of the new funding was made on May 13.

Twenty-seven municipalities and community organizations across the province will receive funding this fiscal year.

Community Transportation Assistance Program recipients in this region include:

• HOPE Dial-a-Ride, Yarmouth,

• Le Transport de Clare, $91,104

• Sou'West Nova Transit, $78,800

• Trans County Transportation Society, Annapolis Valley, $129,928

• Kings Point-To-Point Transit, $150,294

• Queens County Transit, $65,879 Public Transit Assistance Program recipients in this region include:

• Town of Yarmouth, $25,000

• Kings Transit, $375,000
