East Pubnico Pumpkinville turning heads

CARLA ALLEN TRI-COUNTY VANGUARD carla.allen@saltwire.com

There’s a whole lot of pumpkins attracting attention in East Pubnico, Yarmouth County, this October.

Community members have pulled on their thinking caps and created an impressive array of themes to create Pumpkinville.

There’s a pumpkin fisherman who’s hauling aboard a pumpkin mermaid, a Dr. Strang pumpkin beside a

Nova Scotia flag, pumpkins on bikes, a kayaking pumpkin, Cruella with some of her pumpkin puppies, pumpkin minions, and many, many more characters and scenes.

“The hardest part is keeping the heads on,” says Bonnie Adams, who created the minions and their overseer.

She added that all of the costumes came from Frenchys. She was looking forward to seeing the display lit up that evening.

Doward McComiskey, accompanied by his grandson Hunter, was happy to show his displays around a little hollow next to his home.

“Hunter got me into it,” says the granddad.

“It was close to six years ago. He wanted something scary but when I got it up, he wouldn’t come down here.”

Hunter pipes up, “During the daytime I will, but not the nighttime!”

McComiskey says they both enjoy making the dispays as much as seeing them when completed.

Doward McComiskey, with his grandson Hunter, created displays for the East Pubnico Pumpkinville.
