Veterans memorial banners are now gracing the Town of Yarmouth through a new program introduced this year.

And the banners are getting a lot of positive reviews from family members taking part in the program, as well as the public.

The town’s parks supervisor Todd Muise and his team received the banners last Tuesday and installation got underway.

The town partnered with Royal Canadian Legion Yarmouth Branch 61 to make the memorial banners program available to families and friends of veterans.

The cost for each banner was $122.50, but due to a generous donation from Branch 61, the cost to families for each banner was greatly reduced.

“The banners offer a great way to honour these heroes with a full colour banner in downtown Yarmouth for one month leading up to Remembrance Day,” the town says on its website.

Initially when the Town of Yarmouth announced the program, it had said up to 30 banners would be available. Due to public interest, the number of banners was expanded to 50.

Information about the Veterans Memorial Banner Program can be found on the town’s website.

The Town of Yarmouth’s Parks Department will store the purchased banners and put up them up for Remembrance Day for three years. The program is open to residents of the Town of Yarmouth, the Municipality of Yarmouth, and the Municipality of Argyle.

“We all know the importance of celebrating our veterans and being reminded of what they went through for our freedom,” said Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood at the time the program was announced. “This is a creative, unique and visual way to honour veterans for all to see. Special thanks to our dedicated parks staff and the Legion Branch 61 for making this wonderful project happen.”
