A popular brewery and restaurant in Tusket, Yarmouth County, has opened another outlet in Halifax.

Kennedy Deviller, manager of the four-year-old Tusket Falls Brewing Co., says the owners of both operations

– Jeff Raynard and Melanie Sweeney – had been thinking about expanding to Halifax for awhile, when an opportunity came up.

Even during the ongoing pandemic, they went for it.

“They stepped up and decided to expand their business a bit,” she says.

The Halifax location, called the Tusket Falls Beer Project, opened on Sept. 4 at 2220 Gottingen St., and is managed by Kristine Saulnier.

Live music is a regular feature at the Tusket brewery and both locations have petfriendly patios with auxiliary heaters to extend the season.

Deviller says the new location is doing well.

“They were hoping it was going to be busy and it has been mostly every day, during weekdays as well,” Deviller says.

In addition to having nine beers on tap, both locations also sell individual tall boys.

For the most part, locals provide the largest percentage of business at the location in Tusket, but they saw the tourist market start to rebuild during the summer months.

Deviller says when the COVID-19 lockdown was in effect, curbside pickups were

“It stayed fairly steady during the lockdown,” she says.

Meanwhile, there is lots to attract customers. Both restaurants serve up fare that includes “fried creamy buffalo chicken sandwiches with seasoned kale, micro greens, bread and butter pickles, and garlic

balsamic aioli, served with side of salt and vinegar pickled potatoes from Speak Easy Kitchen, surrounded by a fresh Challah bun.”

Brews also include “Control the Tempo,” a citra based cascade bomb of a beer that is extremely effervescent and exudes citrus flavours of grapefruit and orange peel from the first sip.

The business has a store online and ships across Canada. Local deliveries are available in Halifax and the Yarmouth area. CONTRIBUTED
