Volunteers sought, registration open, for NS 55+ Games

Event being hosted by Yarmouth and Acadian Shores in September

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores is hosting the NS 55+ Games this September and they need the public's help.

“We are currently seeking volunteers that are well versed in a number of sports to take on the key role of helping organize the individual events,” reads a media release. “Ideally you would have been involved in hosting a tournament and understand the sport/activity well.”

Volunteers will have lots of support as this event is pulled together, from the games committee to an experienced event production team.

People are being sought for the following sports: men's and women's Hockey, 8-Ball, duplicate bridge, contract bridge, cribbage, Scrabble, 45's, skating, table tennis, soccer, slo-pitch, swimming, pickleball, darts, track and field, cycling and washer toss.

Anyone interested in helping to support this event as a marshal for one of these sports/activities is asked to send an email to 55games@ yasta.ca.

Other activities happening during the games include 5K and 10K runs, candlepin bowling, dragon boating, golf, ice curling, stand-up paddle boarding, stick curling, swimming, tennis and walks.

The games will be taking place Sept. 16 to Sept. 18. Venues include the Mariners Centre, Yarmouth Golf Club, Brunswick Lanes, West Pubnico Legion, Hebron Rotary Centre and Recreation Complex, Gateway Park, Tusket Tennis Club, Universite Sainte-Anne, West Pubnico Fire Hall, Knights of Columbus, Par-en-Bas, Lake Milo, Tusket Falls Brewery, NSCC and/or Pembroke Hall.

Curling will take place at the Yarmouth Curling Club Nov. 12-14.

Registration for those looking to participate in the games is open until Aug. 20.
