Western Regional Health Foundation launches fundraising campaign

The Western Regional Health (WRH) Foundation’s latest campaign will focus on health, lungs, hearing and critical care in Western Newfoundland.

The foundation launched its 2021-22 Case for Support campaign through a video on its Facebook page earlier this month.

The organization announced it will fundraise for $574,654 to add new technology to different departments within the Western Health Region.

This equipment will detect heart problems, help diagnose and treat lung cancer and other lung diseases, manage sleep apnea, monitor and treat serious medical conditions and provide tools for early hearing detection and intervention programs for children.

“I’m proud of this year’s campaign, excited to fundraise together with the community to make this equipment a reality and pleased that our supporters are by our side every step of the way as we improve health care in the western region of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said WRH Foundation executive director Suzanne Carey.

The WRH Foundation’s Case for Support is the name given to the organization’s method of letting the public know what equipment is being fundraised for in a particular year.

The WRH Foundation has been doing its Case for Support annually for several years.

In the past, the launch has always been done in-person at Western Regional Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook. This year, for the first time, the launch was done online.

A video was put together featuring special guests, including WRH Foundation board members, Western Health physicians and technicians, as well as regional clinical leaders who helped bring home the importance of the equipment that is part of the new campaign.

To kick off the fundraising, near the end of the video, the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Auxiliary president, Gladys Hann, made a $1,000 pledge to support the foundation’s 2021-22 campaign, promising to be back at the annual Radiothon on Oct. 1.

Carey says the auxiliary has donated more than $1 million to the foundation and holds the title as its number one supporter.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The WRH Foundation has worked with the community to fundraise for essential medical equipment since it was established as a registered charity in 1987.

Over the years, through 30 successful Radiothons, hundreds of special events, and thousands of generous supporters, patrons and volunteers, the foundation’s contribution to Western Health has surpassed $20 million.
