Tender issued for demolition of Grace Hospital nurses’ residence

The provincial government has issued an open call for bids to demolish the nurses’ residence at the former Grace Hospital site on Lemarchant Road in St. John’s.

The scope of work includes hazardous material abatement and disposal, pest control, building demolition, site security and removal of building service lines.

Professional services to safely remove materials and structures will also be part of the contract.

The tender is scheduled to close on June 21, and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure anticipates awarding a contract early in July.

Elvis Loveless, minister for transportation and infrastructure, said he is happy to see plans moving ahead to demolish the facility.

The project is part of the $7.8 million set aside in the 2023 budget for planning a new hospital to replace St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital. The province is considering the former Grace Hospital site as the location for the new building.
