The Newfoundland Rogues have set sail from St. John’s with the playoffs on the horizon.
The Rogues (23-17) are headed to Raleigh, North Carolina, for their first round of The Basketball League (TBL) playoff series with the Raleigh Firebirds.
The Rogues series win over the Lebanon Leprechauns last weekend in St. John’s helped them clinch third place in the TBL’S Southeast Division. The Firebirds finished in second place to set up the matchup.
The one-game elimination series is being played Tuesday at John Chavis Memorial Park in Raleigh.
The winner of the game will then play a best-of-three series with the winner of the matchup between the Georgia Soul and the Coastal Georgia Buccaneers.
The Rogues played the Firebirds twice this season and won both games. In those games, Newfoundland averaged 114 points per game, while surrendering 109.5 points per game.
One of the Rogues got some good news on Monday as star guard Armani Chaney was named to the TBL’S All-east Conference first team.
Chaney finished the regular season fourth in league scoring with 28.7 points per game and fourth in assists with 7.9 helpers per contest.
Newfoundland and Raleigh get things going at 9 p.m. NL time on Tuesday.
