UKRAINIAN EGGMAKING WORKSHOPS

St. Mary the Virgin Church will be hosting a workshop in the art of Pysanky - Ukrainian egg making, led by Jan Buley, on Saturday, April 1.

There will be two time slots offered: 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m.

The workshops will be held at the west doors of the sanctuary. Due to the limited space, workshops will be full with 20 participants, so advanced registration is required by emailing smvnl2020@gmail.com

The cost is $20/per person (cash only, payable at the workshop) and the event is only suitable for children eight years and older.

All proceeds will be given to the Red Cross Relief Fund for Ukraine. All workshop materials will be provided.

BRUNCH WITH THE EASTER BUNNY

Hop on over for Easter brunch with the Easter Bunny at the Paradise Double Ice Complex on Saturday, April 1.

Four brunch sessions, with 30 tables available per session (8:30 a.m., 10:10 a.m., 11:50 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.), will be held, with admission $35/table, which includes brunch and two photos with the Easter Bunny (each table seats a maximum of eight people).

Only one table admission for one brunch session can be purchased per account, and it is not possible to purchase admission for more than one brunch session. A limited waitlist is offered at the time of admission sales.

Tickets can be picked up at the Paradise Double Ice Complex starting Wednesday, March 29 and ID must be presented.

The brunch will consist of pancakes, eggs, and sausages. If you have any food allergies, please advise staff as they can accommodate.

BUNNY HOP

The sixth annual Bunny Hop is back at Critters n Things on April 1. Bring your children and small pets for photos with the Easter bunny and visit some of the adorable bunnies Hoppy Homes Rescue has up for adoption.

There will also be Easter crafts, cotton candy, prizes and more!

Admission is by donation and pictures with the Easter Bunny for $20. Pre-book appointments for photos with the Easter Bunny by emailing hoppyhomesrescue@gmail.com, walk-ins will be taken as time and space permits.

DOG SHOW

The Newfoundland All Breed Kennel Club will hold its confirmation show at Buckmaster’s Circle Community Centre on April 1 and 2.

Admission is $5 per person or $10 for a family of four.

Please note that only dogs pre-entered in the show can enter the building and children must be with an adult at all times.

There will also be a canteen on site and some vendors will be on site. There will also be a baked goods and craft items table and Junior Conformation Handling will be held both days around the lunch hour.

TAX HELP

Help is available for people with simple tax situations and an income of less than $35,000 a year ($45,000 for a two-person household) at the A. C. Hunter Public Library.

A virtual session is available on April 1, or in-person on April 8 and 29 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Register for help via the library's website.

Registration will close one hour before the event.

Make sure to bring all your required documents with you or have them handy for an online session.

SHOP LOCAL, SUPPORT ARTISANS

The Swing Into Spring Market and the Baby & Me Boutique will be held Sunday, April 2 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Featuring more than 90 vendors in both shows, it's a great way to support local crafters and artisans. Admission for both markets is $5 for adults, and kids 12 and under are free.

VISIT NARNIA

Kittiwake Dance Theatre presents its performance of Narnia at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre Saturday, April 1, with a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7:30 p.m. show featuring a full orchestra conducted by Vernon Regehr.

A wintry fantasy comes to life when the children of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia enter a secret land. Set to Tchaikovsky’s rarely performed 1st Symphony, “Winter Daydreams”, Kittiwake’s newest story ballet is choreographed by Martin Vallée and Hannah Drover.

Additional artistic collaborators include Jamie Skidmore (puppetry) and Sharon King-campbell (dramaturg).

STUDENT DRAMA PERFORMANCE

The Holy Heart Performing Arts Cabaret Company will be joined by members of the Mainstage and Spotlight Theatre companies exploring some of the greatest villains in musical theatre and more for its upcoming performance of Villainous!

JOB FAIR

A job fair for Ukrainians on Monday, March 27 in Corner Brook at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, 1 Canada Games Drive at 1:30 p.m. This is the first in a series of job fairs taking place during the week, with fairs also planned for Deer Lake on Wednesday, March 29 and Stephenville on Thursday, March 30. The fairs will connect west coast employers who have full-time, year-round job vacancies with skilled Ukrainian newcomers.
