MURPHY, Rick “Francis”

November 25, 1951–March 19, 2023 Rick passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center at the age of 71 years. His last moments of life were shared with visits from family & friends, followed by a small family sing along with his favorite songs. Predeceased by his father Francis Murphy. Leaving to mourn is his loving wife, Deborah (nee Hawco) of 45 years; his cherished children Lesley (Stephen) Hickey, Colin (Erica) Murphy; his grandchildren Blake Rideout and Jaxon Murphy; and his four-legged grandpups Maverick & Winnie. Rick leaves behind his devoted family: mother, Kay Murphy; brother and sisters, Judy (Wayne) Wessells, Gerard (Sheila) Murphy, Ros (Cliff) Hong; sisters/brother-inlaw, Diane (Stan) Hussey, Cathy Antle, Patti Hawco, and Kevin Hawco; as well as a very large extended family. Rick had a large circle of great friends, including Glen Hickey, Mike Parnell, Darryl Quinlan, Wayne Mullins, Eddie Sinnott, and Billy Dillon…there are just too many to list them all. The love and support of all of his close friends has not gone unnoticed – In his words “Les, I have good friends”. A very special thanks to Dr. Kirsty Tompkins and her team for the dedicated support over the past 21 years, as well as Dr. Tina Squires, Dr. Jon Shik, the staff at the Health Sciences Ambulatory Clinic and 4 North A. Rick was a proud Kilbrider born and raised who loved an honest days work as an automotive insurance appraiser. As we all know, Rick was an auto enthusiast and had a vast knowledge of all makes and models, with expertise in antique classic cars and hot rods. He was always happy to share his knowledge when people came looking for automobile advice….if he didn’t have the answer no one did. When Rick wasn’t found out in the garage he was spending time crusin’ around in his Pontiac, enjoying Take-out Fridays with his boys, Jaxon & Blake or watching NASCAR Races on Sundays with his loving wife Debbie by his side. He appreciated the simple things in life, he loved being a poppy and he cherished his time with his family. Rick will be dearly missed by all but his stories will live on and he will be forever remembered. He truly was one in a million. In the final days Rick reminded us all to live life the way you want. Like Frank Sinatra said “I did it my way”. Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, Lemarchant Road, on Wednesday, March 22nd, from 6– 9 p.m. and Thursday, March 23rd, from 12 – 9 p.m. Cremation to follow. Funeral service to take place at St. Kevin’s Church, Main Road, Gould’s on Saturday, March 25th, at 11 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Kilbride Cemetery. Flowers gratefully appreciated.
