Suzuki fined $2,500 by NHL for cross-checking

The NHL’S Department of Player Safety announced Friday that Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki has been fined $2,500 for crosschecking Florida Panthers forward Anton Lundell during the third period of Thursday night’s 9-5 loss in Florida.

Suzuki was given a major penalty and a game misconduct for crosschecking Lundell at 17:09 of the third period.

“I think I got him on the top of the helmet, it wasn’t under his visor,” Suzuki told reporters in Florida after the game when asked about the incident. “He just kind of took a weird run at me, I gave him a shot. It was just a little scrum. I don’t think I did anything that bad. Probably the refs just trying to control the game, call a penalty. I guess we’ll see.”

The money from Suzuki’s fine will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
