David Reardon, 50, appeared in provincial court and was officially charged with attempted murder and 10 other offences Monday morning, March 20.

Judge Lori Marshall read aloud the details of the charges against Reardon: attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm and three charges related to the unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as two breaches of a release order given to him last June, banning him from possessing weapons and compelling him to be of good behaviour.

Members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary arrested Reardon after responding to a report of a shooting in Torbay just before midnight Saturday, March 18.

The male victim remains in hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.

Police say the two men know each other.

Given the court’s closure for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, Reardon appeared by phone from the St. John’s city lockup. He asked the court for a two-week postponement in his case to allow him time to speak with his lawyer and decide whether he will seek bail. He is scheduled to return to court April 4.
