Body of snowmobiler recovered from pond

Searchers have recovered the body of a man who went through the ice on a snowmobile near Perry’s Cove on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Harbour Grace RCMP received a call about an overdue snowmobiler around 5:30 p.m. Shortly after, the police received information about a hole in the ice in Middle Pond, leading to suspicions that someone may have gone through it.

Search and rescue crews and firefighters from the Salmon Cove/perry’s Cove, Harbour Grace and Victoria fire departments attended the scene.

The man’s body was recovered from the water shortly after.

Police said the investigation is ongoing with help from the chief medical examiner’s office.
