TOBIN, Bernard (Bern) Joseph

Peacefully with his family by his side at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in his 76th year. Loving husband of Paula (Abbott) Tobin. Dear father of Michael (Lindsay) Tobin and Jennifer Anderson. Cherished grandpa to Keanan, Brogan, Avril and Sullivan. Also survived by his sisters, Marion Fagan, Alice Gibbons (Tony); foster brother, Leo Young; and brother-in-law, Harold (Jean) Abbott. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was a proud Newfoundlander, he never forgot his roots and the land he loved so much. Dad and Mom raised a family in Jarvis for over 45 years and that is what we will always call home. They moved to Hamilton to the community of Garth Trails to start a new chapter and meet new people, but never forgetting their friends in Jarvis. Family was a very important part of dad’s life. Dad always was a big part of whatever sport we did and that continued right through to his grandchildren, whether it be in the garage teaching us how to build or do something, watching a recital or sitting at the ballpark or hockey arena or going on a family camping trip dad was there, he never missed an event. Dad was a proud and dedicated member of Local 67 the Welder and Pipefitters Union where he received his 50-year pin in November. He had a smile on his face as he walked through the gate at the Esso Refinery in Nanticoke where he spent a great deal of his working life. Dad had a 10-month fight, and he fought it with strength and dignity, and this could not have been done with out the help from his family, friends and neighbours. We are truly grateful for the support. Cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 31st, at 10 a.m. from St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, 1378 Sandusk Rd, Jarvis. Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held following the interment at Garth Trails Clubhouse, 45 Abbotsford Trail, Hamilton, Ontario from 2 p.m. till 5 p.m. For those wishing to make a memorial donation in Bernard’s memory they are asked to consider Knot a Breast Dragon Boat Racing, c/o P.O.
