BATES (Megann), Anwyl Barbara

Died November 30, 2022, age 91, in Massachusetts, after a brief illness. Anwyl was born Oct 18, 1931, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to James Megann and Olive Bishop. She grew up on Maxse Street, and attended Bishop Spencer College. Anwyl moved to the United States as a young woman, and spent most of her life there. She had a long and successful career at British Airlines, and she used travel passes she earned to keep in touch with family in Newfoundland. Anwyl and Lane retired in Martha’s Vineyard, spending many happy years near and on the water. Anwyl is survived by her brother, Harry, St. John’s; nieces, Adele, Pat and Robin; nephew, Jim. She was predeceased by her husband, Lane Bates; sister, Judith Myfanwy; nephews, David and James; niece, Gillian. Cremation has taken place, and ashes will be scattered at sea.
