World Energy GH2 signs MOUS with Qalipu First Nation, Town of Stephenville

World Energy GH2 has signed two memorandums of understanding (MOUS) at Wind Energy Hamburg with the Qalipu First Nation and the Town of Stephenville.

The agreements are part of the company’s wind power and hydrogenation project proposed for Stephenville-port au Port area.

As part of their agreement, Qalipu First Nation will work with DOB Academy of the Netherlands to develop a training institute offering renewable energy programming with the College of the North Atlantic.

Qalipu First Nation Chief Brendan Mitchell said the MOU will offer band members opportunities, including industry training.

“We are proud to work with World Energy GH2 on a project that includes the development of a training institute that will provide green energy training to the people of our province and beyond,” said Mitchell.

Tom Rose, mayor of Stephenville and a member of Qalipu First Nation, said the MOU is a critical starting point for the partnership being developed between the Town of Stephenville and World Energy.

“As one of the largest Indigenous populations in the province, Stephenville has a responsibility to further initiatives that will help sustain our planet, to help reach the climate targets set by all levels of government for 2050, and to build a legacy for our children, grandchildren and the children not yet born,” said Rose.
