Police investigating smash-and-grab robbery

The RCMP is investigating after police say a thief busted into Butt’s Esso and Convenience in Carbonear and stole beer and lottery tickets.

On Wednesday, shortly after 6:30 a.m., police received a call from a pedestrian, who saw damage to the store’s doors and windows, while walking by.

On arrival, officers found the front window and front door glass smashed.

Police said the store’s surveillance footage captured a suspect, who appeared to be a woman, entering through the front window.

Once inside the store, the suspect stole a case of beer and several lottery tickets, including scratch tickets and break-open tickets, RCMP said in a news release.

Investigators attended the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
