Man arrested after gun found during traffic stop
A 31-year-old man is facing firearms charges after police stopped him in Holyrood on Canada Day.
RCMP said officers stopped a vehicle for driving without a licence plate around 8 p.m. on July 1.
After speaking with the driver, officers noticed he showed signs of impairment, police said in a news release.
Mounties tried to arrest the man, but police said he resisted before eventually being taken into custody.
Officers then searched his vehicle and found drug paraphernalia, a gun and ammunition.
The man, identified as Gregory Walsh of Brigus, is under a court order prohibiting him from possessing firearms, police said.
He was taken back to the local detachment and completed a drug influence evaluation.
Police are awaiting the results to determine if drug-impaired driving charges are appropriate.
Walsh has been charged with careless transportation of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and resisting arrest.
He appeared in court on July 2 and was remanded into custody. Walsh appeared again on July 6 and was released until his next court appearance on Aug. 29.
