Another round of rain arrives mid-week

If you’re looking for wallto-wall sunshine this week, Mother Nature has other plans.

We have a weak ridge of high-pressure southeast of Cape Cod but a lingering trough of low-pressure off the Labrador coast and a developing low-pressure system over the Great Lakes region.

The high is trying to be in our corner, but low-pressure will win.

We’ll start to build cloud cover throughout the day today with a chance of spotty showers, except more widespread over Labrador.

Rain will then develop across New Brunswick, followed by Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the low from the Great Lakes departs and crosses the Maritimes.

Rain will push southeast to northeast across Newfoundland Wednesday night into Thursday.

A swath of 20 to 40-plus mm is forecast to fall from central/southeastern New Brunswick across Prince Edward Island into western Cape Breton Island, along with the south coast and parts of central and western Newfoundland. Eastern Cape Breton and parts of the North Shore of Nova Scotia could also see amounts within this range, but likely on the lower end of the scale.

The remainder of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and New Brunswick can expect about five to 15 mm, with pockets of 15 to 25 mm from any heavy downpours.

High-pressure will return behind the system bringing back the sunshine, at least temporarily.

Weather fronts from two weak troughs will likely bring more showers at times during the weekend.

While the rain in the forecast is not necessarily ideal for any outdoor or vacation activities, it certainly helps the farmers, wells, and summer drought.

Temperatures this week will be warm but below seasonal at times and will lack any heat that comes with the dog days of summer.
