Seven-year-old dead after being pulled from river

Saskatoon police have confirmed that a sevenyear-old boy recovered from the river over the weekend has died.

Officers were called to the riverbank near Victoria Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday with a report of a missing child. A search of the area turned up the boy’s possessions, which had apparently been discarded near the water, leading officers to believe the boy may have entered the South Saskatchewan River.

Fire department divers were called in to help with the search. A sonar scan located the boy underwater in the area near the Traffic Bridge around 10 p.m. Divers recovered the boy and performed CPR, as did paramedics who were called to the scene.
