PCS call on premier to explain unpublished access to information requests

The Official Opposition is calling on Premier Andrew Furey to explain why dozens of access to information requests made to the Premier’s Office haven’t been made public.

The Opposition said in a news release Monday that more than 50 access to information requests made to the Premier’s Office haven’t been published online.

The last request published by the Premier’s Office was in November, causing Progressive Conservative Interim Leader David Brazil to air his concern.

Brazil said Furey was elected on promises of providing information to the province’s residents, and the requests should have been made public months ago.

“The access to information process is legislated to ensure transparency with the people of the province. More than 50 requests to the Premier’s Office should have been made public months ago, yet they remain hidden. Is this the transparency the premier campaigned on?”

The latest condemnation by the Opposition comes after dozens of government decisions not released publicly were uncovered last month.
