CAR ROLLS OVER ON TCH

One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a single-vehicle rollover crash on the Trans-canada Highway just west of St. John’s Friday afternoon, May 27. The incident happened in the westbound lane between Paddy’s Pond and the Foxtrap access road when a car left the road and went into a ditch. According to witnesses on scene, the car struck a rock wall next to the ditch and overturned a number of times back onto the highway, damaging another vehicle in the process. The man was trapped in the car until St. John’s Regional Fire Department firefighters used saws and hydraulic extrication tools to free the injured male. Westbound traffic, in the meantime, came to a standstill and was backed up several kilometres before vehicles could start moving again. The man’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
