Gas prices leap

Price at the pumps shot up in Newfoundland and Labrador following an unscheduled change overnight Tuesday, May 17.

The provincial Public Utilities Board announced the increase of up to 10.9 cents per litre (CPL) to the price of gas, setting the maximum cost of a litre of regular unleaded self-serve gasoline to $2.250 on the Avalon Peninsula.

There were no other changes to diesel or home heating fuels.

The next scheduled price change is Thursday, May 19.
