1573: The Battle of Mikatagahara takes place between the armies of Tokugawa Ieyasu and Takeda Shingen. Tokugawa’s forces are almost annihilated. 1890: American reporter Nellie Bly of the “New York World” returns home after a 72-day voyage around the globe. Her journey was an attempt to turn Jules Verne’s “Around the World in Eighty Days” from fiction to fact for the first time.
1989: Michael Jordan scores the 10,000th point of his career (in his fifth season) but his Chicago Bulls lose to the Philadelphia 76ers 120-108.
