Elderly driver ticketed after near-miss with RCMP cruiser on TCH
An elderly man was ticketed and may lose his licence after almost striking an RCMP cruiser with his vehicle on the Trans-canada Highway on Nov. 25.
In a Nov. 30 news release, Holyrood RCMP said an officer had stopped around 2:30 p.m. on the side of the Trans-canada Highway with emergency lights on to attend to the scene of a single-vehicle crash near the Holyrood Access Road.
Police said the officer was parked partially in the westbound lane, when a passing vehicle ran over several pylons placed around the police cruiser.
The vehicle stopped and the officer approached the driver, who was laughing at what happened, police said.
The 79-year-old man was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to move over and driving without due care and attention.
A medical review of the driver has also been ordered to ensure he is medically fit to drive, the RCMP said.
