Better name choices for Mile One?

Edward Sawdon St. John’s

I would have preferred Mile One being called the Tim Horton's Arena, a name is linked to a former NHL great, Tim Horton, not Mary Brown's Centre.

As I discussed this with St. John's Mayor Danny Breen, it is too bad that Tim Hortons did not submit a bid for the naming rights of Mile One Centre? It would have been a great place to have doubledouble and assorted Timbits while watching an ECHL hockey game or a basketball game.

Who knows, they could sell seasons tickets or tickets through a Tim Hortons arena drive-thru and be able to receive Tim's Reward Points while you're at it?

But then Mary Brown's could have the “best ice in town!”

What's next? Is the Mount Pearl Glacier being called KFC Arena? Or the Mcdonald's Mchappy Arena? Provincial Airlines Glacier? Smitty's Summit?

Corner Brook already has the Pepsi Centre, I think.

I wonder why Mary Brown's, St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, and our friends at St. John's City Hall didn't get together and come up with a name that reflects one of our past or present leaders or celebrities? Dr. Andrew Furey's Fabulous Forum or the Crosbie Memorial Coliseum or Alison Coffin's Memorial Auditorium or Haggie's Hall or the (Gerry) Roger's Centre or Jack Harris Arena or O'leary Stadium or Seamus O'regan Sports Complex or Breen Civic Centre or the Hall of Critch or Pamela

Pardy’s Palladium or the Codfather's Place at (Gordon) Pinsent Park or John Abbott's Place (no connection to Victor Newman's Enterprises or the ‘Young and Restless’), Brazil Square Gardens?

Anything is better than Danny's Muskrat Ice Palace or the Dunderdome!
