Two N.L. farmers inducted into Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame

ST. JOHN’S — Two Newfoundland and Labrador farmers have been inducted into the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame.

In an Oct. 21 release, the late Raymond Eveleigh of Comfort Cove and Gerad Cormier of Codroy Valley were honoured as 2020 and 2021 inductees respectively for their work turning family farms into large-scale operations.

Cormier is a fifth-generation farmer who still works on the same farm his greatgrandfather established in 1852.

The farm expanded in 1963 to include a dairy operation, Cormier’s Dairy, and merged with Chaffey Farm in 2004 to become one of the largest dairy operations in eastern Canada.

Cormier also helped form the N.L. Milk Marketing Board and served on the Crop and Livestock Insurance Board, Dairy Farmers of Canada and the Canadian Milk Supply Management Committee.

The late Raymond Eveleigh cleared his first piece of land in Burn Cove at the age of 18 and expanded his farm from vegetable production to include fruit, sheep and cows.

Nearly a century later, Triple E Farms is one of the largest vegetable farms in the province and carries the slogan “Pride of the Burn” on its logo.

The two were honoured during the induction ceremony at the Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture on Oct. 21.
